Trust update: January 2022

15th Jan 2022

Sixfields stand and land deal

We understand that an updated red book valuation of the land associated with the proposed East Stand and land deal for Sixfields, agreed in principle with Northampton Town FC, should be presented to West Northamptonshire Council’s cabinet at a meeting next week.

The standalone council meeting to discuss the issue is likely to follow shortly afterwards. It is anticipated that a decision will then be reached to go before February’s cabinet meeting on 15 February, then ratified by a meeting of the full council on 24 February.

Trust’s 30th anniversary

The Supporters Trust marked its 30th anniversary on 2 January with a celebration of its history, dating back to the seminal Exeter Rooms meeting at the beginning of 1992 and the formation of English football’s original Trust shortly afterwards.

We received congratulations from the Football Supporters Association, who will shortly be featuring us in a news article, and a host of other Supporters Trusts up and down the country who, by and large, paid great tribute to the foundation stone laid by the late Brian Lomax.

And special mention to Exeter City FC who will be running an article about us in one of their matchday programmes this month.

New board members needed!

Keen to shape the direction of Northampton Town Supporters Trust? A number of board vacancies remain open as we approach the forthcoming Annual General Meeting on Thursday 10 February.

All that is required is for you to be a member of the Trust and to commit to regular meetings – one or two a month – in helping to safeguard the best interests of the football club and to preserve the continuation of League football in Northampton.

Former Cobblers boss Ian Atkins is set to join the board at the AGM and an important year is on the horizon – locally, the Trust will be making representations around the forthcoming East Stand and land deal and will be proposing a partnership infrastructure foundation involving the club, the council and the fans which will look at improving club and community facilities at the stadium.

If you are a Trust member and interested in further information about being a board member, please write to us at ntfctrust1992@gmail.com
