West Northamptonshire Council has confirmed there will be a special meeting to discuss the Sixfields East Stand and land deal.
It is not known as yet whether the special meeting, likely to be held at Northampton's Guildhall, will be held before Christmas or carried over into the New Year.
Consequently, the full council and cabinet meetings - which were due to decide on the deal within the next week - will now not be discussing the stand and land plans.
Given the history of the issue and its complexity, the Supporters Trust welcomes the decision to hold a special meeting which was called for by the Labour and Liberal Democrat groups on the council.
We support a deal that completes the East Stand to a satisfactory standard as a matter of urgency, but the deal must protect the original footprint of the club's land which is subject to an Asset of Community Value (ACV) registration.
And also protect the long-term viability of Northampton Town FC which, like the other premier sports clubs in the town, is an asset to the town and its community.
