Welcome to new board members Andy Cooper and Michael Walker
The board welcomed two new directors to its monthly meeting – Andy Cooper and Michael Walker.
Andy, born and brought up in Northampton, has supported the Cobblers for more than 50 years and is a life member of the Trust.
He is now settled in Devon and has enjoyed a 40-year career in journalism and media management.
Michael has also been a Cobblers fan for more than 50 years. Formerly a district and county councillor, Michael hopes to see the club playing in the Championship in his lifetime.
Both Andy and Michael feel they are now able to devote time to work for the Trust on behalf of the membership and to ensure that members are heard.
They would also like to work constructively towards rebuilding the relationship between the Trust and the owners of the football club.
Statement on East Stand completion
We have issued the following statement: “Northampton Town Supporters Trust welcomes the completion of the East Stand and the commitment of the club to spend £6m to facilitate this.
“The opening of the East Stand represents a significant improvement to the stadium. It is heartwarming to see this long-awaited project finally completed and for Sixfields to be looking better as a result.
“It has taken 13 years to reach this point, but the Supporters Trust hopes that the stand’s completion will allow the club to move forward.
“The Trust looks forward to the club’s owners setting out how they hope to use the remaining land to support the financial sustainability of the club into the future.
“The Trust still hopes to work with the club in the future to build upon the positive outcome of the East Stand project, and to supporting the team as it works hard to confirm League One status for next season.”
Football Governance Bill
Northampton South MP Mike Reader has agreed to host a meeting of Trusts in Parliament to lobby committee MPs on primacy for Supporters Trusts, and other supporter organisations underpinned by democratic principles, in the legislation.
Cobblers Travel
Cobblers Travel, together with the Earls Barton Cobblers, will be running an executive coach to the games at Cambridge (29 March) and Crawley (26 April).
