East Stand and land development at Sixfields
· It appears likely that internal aspects of the East Stand development will be completed by the end of March, although certain external aspects and the new road under construction require planning consent.
Once West Northamptonshire Council is satisfied that the stand development meets the required standard, the focus will turn to the club land behind the East Stand, which has been remediated and levelled, and the wider land beyond.
Club chairman Kelvin Thomas has hinted that the club could well develop this land themselves although no planning application has so far been submitted.
In this scenario, we will continue to campaign for any development to directly benefit the club and its communities in the long term.
However, the chairman has clearly intimated in the past that the land – together with the wider development land at Sixfields – would be sold to help repay the football club’s outstanding internal debt to the owners.
In this scenario, it is likely that a large warehouse could be built behind the East Stand and, if so, the benefit to the club – beyond the repayment of club debt – remains unclear.
