Leicester City FC

27th Oct 2018

Ten years ago this weekend, the Cobblers travelled to the Walkers Stadium and came home from Leicester with a goalless draw in League One.
It was a result that saw many Leicester fans turn on then Foxes manager Nigel Pearson and fear for the future of their club.
Two years later, Leicester City were bought by Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha of Kingpower and the club was transformed.
To the extent that Leicester were crowned Premier League champions in 2016, an achievement that sent seismic shock waves across the football world.
At the same time, the Cobblers were enjoying their own triumph as runaway champions of League Two. Great days for football in the East Midlands!
Northampton and Leicester have a greater sporting rivalry in rugby union and cricket than in football.
But nevertheless there exists a strong kinship between two places just 32 miles apart which share geography, a boot and shoe heritage and a strong sporting tradition.
I am sure all sports fans in Northampton will join us in extending our sympathies to all those across the county border affected by the sad events of last night. Our thoughts are with you.
