Our initial thoughts on the fan-led review into football governance...
Statement
The Supporters Trust broadly welcomes the recommendations of Tracey Crouch's fan-led review into football governance.
The Trust played a full part in the review and addressed the panel directly on the prevalent lack of transparency at many clubs.
The need for an independent regulator is paramount. A regulator would hopefully ensure that all clubs sign up to a licensed charter which requires the need for them to be run on accountable, transparent and sustainable lines.
The creation of a diverse shadow board of supporters will also give supporters a far greater and meaningful say in the running of their clubs, which are significant community assets.
Fans are major stakeholders and deserving of a clear voice.
A fairer distribution of monies from television and the Premier League is also vital in working towards a more realistic and viable financial model which will place more clubs on a greater sustainable footing.
We will be making a more detailed statement following our December board meeting, once we have studied the full report.
