Fred was Cobblers to the core. A kind and generous man towards his fellow supporters and all things Cobblers. You could always rely on Fred for a smile and good banter on matchdays home and away. Week in, week out Fred was always there demonstrating what football is and should be all about. Come rain or shine his spirit and support for our club and his fellow supporters never waivered.
You will be missed by many Fred and we will remember the fun times.
Fred's son James has since also said, "I would like to thank supporters for all of the messages of support and respect that I have recieved. My Dad was a Cobbler through and through and always had time for other supporters be that organising coaches, working with the Trust or by queueing up to get tickets for others. I don't have the words to say how much I will miss Dad but I know he would be touched with all the messages of support that people have given me at this difficult time."
Our thoughts are with his family.
R.I.P Fred Baker (aka Dodger)
** The funeral will be held on Wednesday 31st August at the County Crematorium at 11.00am with the wake being held at the Supporters bar at Sixfields afterwards. James would ask that Cobblers fans attending the funeral do so in club colours and Cobblers shirts.
The family would appreciate that donations are sent for Cynthia Spencer Hospice in lieu of flowers. Donations can be organised through the funeral directors: John White Funeral Directors, 188 Watling Street East, Towcester, Northants, NN12 6DB, Tel: 01327 359266.
James added, "I can't tell you how grateful I am for all the support that dad received from the hospice. My Dad was very unwell before going to the hospice but with their support he picked up for a short period and it gave us a few good days that I am certain we wouldn't have had together if they were not there to help us. My Dad was touched by all the support he had there and was always full of praise for the fantastic staff and volunteers who looked after him in his last week of his life. They even made special arrangements with the club for him to attend the Cheltenham game and meet the players afterwards but sadly he was not able to do that."
